A great historical figure lived in the Engels Haus in Wuppertal: Friedrich Engels (1820 to 1895). The large late baroque, representative house of the Engels family was built in 1775. After a comprehensive, far-reaching renovation, the house now houses a museum for early industrialization in Wuppertal. The permanent exhibition shows the life and work of Wuppertal's most famous son and gives a fascinating insight into the everyday bourgeois culture of the Engels entrepreneurial family.
